Albany County Democrats!
It is a privilege to join with you for the occasion of the Albany County Democratic Committee’s celebrated annual picnic. For many years, this event has been a proud tradition of the county committee to gather with friends, family and candidates before the height of the campaign season.
While any time is exciting to be a Democrat, we are lifted by the strengths and challenges of this moment in history. President Barack Obama ushers in a new political generation that finds many sparked by a newfound interest in politics. Our party is poised to bring our principles to the forefront of a national debate that will guide our country in a new and bolder direction.
We will continue to be the voice for the working women and men of Albany County and our Nation – our belief in affordable healthcare for all, retaining local jobs that pay a living wage, quality and affordable education as well as a responsible energy policy inspires our passion as Democrats.
All of our work on the national level would not be possible without the commitment of dedicated Democrats locally. The first elected office that I held was on the local level, and I know that local government is where the rubber meets the road; our local officials must be creative, thrifty and accountable – they are incredibly dedicated individuals all of whom strongly believe in the mission of public service.
I would like to thank all of my partners in local government and members of the County Committee for their partnership and friendship. You have provided me with the opportunity to serve as your Congressman, the responsibilities of which I welcome. Working as a team of federal, state, local and committee officials, we can help advance the goals of our party, provide for our constituents and continue the rich, storied tradition of the Albany County Democratic Committee.
