The Innovation Economy of the Future

Congressman Paul Tonko addresses the House of Representatives following President Obama's visit to our Congressional district.

The SPEAKER pro tempore. Under a previous order of the House, the gentleman from New York (Mr. TONKO) is recognized for 5 minutes.

Mr. TONKO. Mr. Speaker, on Monday I had the distinguished honor of hosting President Barack Obama to New York’s 21st Congressional District that I represent when he paid a visit to Hudson Valley Community College in the city of Troy.

I want to extend my sincerest thanks to the President for recognizing that New York’s Capital Region has become a leader in advanced technologies, has the ingredients to lead in the clean energy sector, and, most of all, for delivering a message that was full of inspiration and full of hope for a better future.

Congressman Tonko welcomes President Obama to our district, showcases green jobs

TROY, NY -- U.S. Rep. Paul Tonko welcomed President Barack Obama to the 21st Congressional District September 21, calling the president's address to students and community leaders at Hudson Valley Community College a terrific opportunity to show off how the region has earned a national reputation as a leader in advanced technology and clean energy development.

“I am thrilled that the president chose to speak at Hudson Valley Community College, which has pioneered green energy and high tech training programs that are getting students ready for the jobs of the future, at such places as Global Foundries in Malta and General Electric in Schenectady,” said Rep.Tonko. “President Obama recognizes that community colleges will serve a critical role in helping ready our workforce for the new jobs that will grow out of the push to develop renewable energy sources and decrease our dependence on fossil fuels. In our region, we have leveraged public investment in partnership with academia and private industry to grow a high technology and green energy corridor that could be a model for other communities across the country to follow.”

Rep. Tonko continued, “I am proud to be working with my colleagues in Congress and with the president to make the investments that will spark an innovation economy that will not only lead to a better energy outcome for our nation and the world, but enhance our national as well as our economic security.”

Message from Congressman Tonko at the Annual Albany Democratic Committee Picnic

July 18, 2009

Albany County Democrats!

It is a privilege to join with you for the occasion of the Albany County Democratic Committee’s celebrated annual picnic. For many years, this event has been a proud tradition of the county committee to gather with friends, family and candidates before the height of the campaign season.

While any time is exciting to be a Democrat, we are lifted by the strengths and challenges of this moment in history. President Barack Obama ushers in a new political generation that finds many sparked by a newfound interest in politics. Our party is poised to bring our principles to the forefront of a national debate that will guide our country in a new and bolder direction.
